These installations were all parts of my thesis project for my BFA combining glass and photography. I was making a lot of these sea creature-like vases, I knew I wanted to fill a room up with them, but wasn't sure exactly how. I started to bring the vases into the photo lab to make color photograms, which are essentially made from the shadows of the vases. Then I took slides of these images and projected them back onto the vases. This process of layering came out of a reflection on Plato's Myth of the Cafe from "The Republic" and my study of Buddhist philosophy. I was seeking to understand how our inner mind reflects in our environment and how this makes it hard to know anyone without knowing ourselves. Beyond any philosophical discussion, the installations were beautiful environments that were reminiscent of underwater kelp forests and tended to be relaxing to the viewer. I enjoyed the idea that I was creating a dream-like space that would take the viewer totally of their everyday environment and give them a memory that was almost like a dream.
